Throw on a blue t-shirt, pack up the family and join your neighbors in experiencing a little patriotism this Memorial Day. Athletes of all levels are welcome to run/walk in honor of those who have died in service to our nation. Boy Scouts will be selling hot dogs and water after the run!
The event will begin at 9 am on Monday, May 29th, on the hill by the pool. There will be a live performance of the National Anthem, as well as a few words devoted to the day.

Clean up after your pet
Many people in our neighborhood have pets that they love to take on walks in our community. This is good for both the pet and for the owner. While getting fresh air outside, dogs love to defecate and urinate while on their walks. Owners should pick up after their animals to keep the surrounding areas clean and sanitary.

As we talked about in our earlier post outlining our strategic priorities this year, the Board has been looking at our current policies and rules with an eye toward addressing complaints from Members about poor compliance with provisions of our governing documents that deal with aesthetic issues (among others) in the neighborhood. As the first of a series of planned steps to address these concerns, at the March 30th meeting of the Canyon Creek Board, the Directors voted to publish a proposed update to the Association's Fine Policy for violations of the Canyon Creek Restrictions (as that term is defined in our governing documents).

(Updated 3/27/2017) In spite of what it appears, please be assured that the City of Austin Water Department is executing to a plan to repair the leaking water meter & excavation at the intersection of Crossland Dr and Boulder Ln near Trailhead Park. The construction foreman is 95% confident that the repair work will start this Thursday March 30th and take no more than a couple of days to complete.

APF is a local non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in Austin and Travis County by filling the city’s funding and resource gap needed to develop, maintain and enhance the area’s parks, trails and green spaces.

On Feb. 7 at the annual meeting of members, the Board of Directors (“Board”) of the Canyon Creek Homeowner’s Association (“Association”) approved a special assessment of $150 per household payable in three $50 installments due July 1, 2017, Jan. 1, 2018 and July 1, 2018 to fund redevelopment of the pool bathhouse. When completed Spring 2018, Canyon Creek will have a completely renovated facility offering:
- Family-friendly changing rooms;
- Year-round toilet access for the adjacent courts, playground and park;
- An 1100sqft indoor clubhouse accommodating up to 80 people;
- Over 700sqft of covered patio for picnics, parties or just comfortable shade;
- Storage area for Association property (e.g. holiday decorations, etc.);
Water, water, every where
In 2016, water surpassed landscaping to become the single largest association expense. In round numbers, our water expense in 2014 and 2015 was $92,000. In 2016 it was $128,000. Since joining the board in February 2016, water usage is something that I have been tracking closely so I wanted to give an update on what's been happening, where we've come from, a project that we've been working on and where we're headed.

As the new treasurer on the board, I have been looking at the 2015 and 2016 budgets in order to come up to speed on the HOA financials. As part of my learning process, I thought it might be instructive to see how our annual dues are distributed across the various budget line items and how much is allocated to reserves each year. The chart below shows approximately how each household's $400 annual dues are spent. (For reference, there are 1,293 dues paying households in the Association.) Expenses classified as one-time, non-recurring are excluded from this analysis.
